Zsa-Zsa 2017, watercolour
Our roommate Zsa-Zsa, who unfortunately disappeared without a trace in 2020. We still miss her every day. I really wanted to work in detail here and it took me about 70 hours to finish this job. Watercolour doesn't always have to go fast. I still consider this work to be one of the best I have made to date. I also used Daler Rowney Artists' watercolour here for the first time, which were a real revelation to me in terms of use and pigmentation. There is clearly a difference between study paint and top quality.

Common kingfisher 2018

For the first time I worked with Derwent Ink pencils, the magic of ink in a pencil. Because of its bright colours, this kingfisher is a beautiful animal to use the possibilities of Intense.

African hornbill 2019, watercolour

I painted this African hornbill after a picture of Arno Meintjes on rather rough paper, perhaps the most beautiful bird there is, but one with character. Because of the rough paper it is very difficult to paint fine details.

Where are you? 2020 (Acrylic on cardboard)

On 10 July 2020, our domestic cat Zsa-zsa disappeared without a trace. The pain, anger and sadness I wanted to turn into a painting after a week and a half, after barely an hour of work this was the result.
